Scaling Mount Zorgoth with 6 to 8 year olds.

It is the end of the schoolyear and that means playing games with the kids in class as a reward for a year of hard work.

This year I used the Roll 4 Shoes system and the idea I posted before of character creation via choosing a picture.

I did this in first grade (6-7 year olds) and second grade (7-8 year olds) running them through a one page adventure called Mount Zorgoth that I once found and saved on my harddrive. I think it was a one page dungeon entry.

In first grade it was a solo adventure as the kid was alone. He picked one of th more edgy characters. We ended up on mountain 5 without checking out what was there yet. A thing that stood out was that he wanted to convince the devil in the volcano to give him "like a cool sword made out of fire or something" and I was, like "Sure, sure, he's a devil though, so the price is working for him for a year and a day." to which sthe kid went "... So, uh, how do I get to the next mountain exactly?" not skipping a beat in not taking the offer up.

Some of the skills he obtained were quite unique too. Tail-climbing for example. And Jump-climbing. What about Tail-Flying? (using the tail as a propeller)

The girls from second grade (age 7-8) first bickered about which girls in the options were the prettiest and wether or not ideas were copied from each other. (I mean the one was called Lisa and the other Lisia ...

A high point there was how they found the robot graveyard on mountain 3 and decided to ignore the still talking robots and scavenge for electrical power. I narrated how the robot freaked out as they took the battery out at which the one girl was "Oh no, we did a bad thing." to which the other replied "No, no. We need this to defeat the wizard Zorgoth."

Kids are ruthless.
